Sindh Government Takes Over Sarim Burney Trust Following Child Trafficking Allegations

KARACHI: The Sindh government has taken control of the Sarim Burney Welfare Trust after the arrest of its chief, Sarim Burney, for child trafficking charges.

Sarim Burney is accused of trafficking children from Pakistan to the USA. Now, the Sindh government’s Department of Social Welfare will manage the orphanage that Burney used to oversee.

Burney was arrested on June 5 after he returned from the USA. The Federal Investigation Agency filed a case against him for trafficking newborn babies to the USA. The FIA reported that Burney sent 20 newborns, including 15 girls, to the USA last year, pretending it was for adoption. The Pakistan embassy provided the records of these children, and Burney’s wife was also mentioned as a beneficiary.
