Parvez Elahi, the President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was released from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail on Tuesday after months of imprisonment. This follows the Lahore High Court’s approval of his bail in the Punjab Assembly illegal recruitment case. Justice Sultan Tanvir announced the verdict earlier in the day.
After his release, Elahi returned to his home in Lahore. He was one of many PTI leaders arrested after the May 9 protests, which erupted following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in a corruption case. These protests led to attacks on public and private properties, including military sites, and were condemned as a “Black Chapter” by the army.

Elahi was first arrested on June 1, 2023, in a corruption case. Despite being granted bail multiple times, he was repeatedly re-arrested. Recently, the Islamabad High Court ordered the Interior Ministry to place Elahi under house arrest or transfer him to a hospital.

In a statement, Elahi expressed gratitude for his release, thanking Allah and the judges who supported the truth. He mentioned the suffering of the people of Gujarat and claimed PTI’s mandate was stolen in his home city. He reaffirmed his loyalty to PTI’s founder.
The case involved Elahi making 12 illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly using fake testing services, according to Punjab’s Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). Secretary Rai Mumtaz Hussain was also arrested in connection with the case.
