Pakistan and Belarus Strengthen Defence Ties with New Cooperation Agreement

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday that Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko decided to work together on security and defence issues.

The military’s media branch said that the army chief and the Prime Minister of Belarus also talked about problems that affected both countries and the region.

The ISPR said that General Syed Asim Munit praised Belarus’s role in promoting peace in the area and around the world and said that he looked forward to seeing Pakistan and Belarus work together on military issues in the future.

It was also important to the Prime Minister of Belarus that the Pakistani military kept the peace and safety in the area.

“The Prime Minister of Belarus appreciated the sacrifices of the armed forces of Pakistan in the war against terrorism,” the statement added.

The Pakistan-Russia Joint Exercise Druzhba-VII started earlier in the day at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre in Pabbi.

Druzhba-VII is the seventh time that the armies of Pakistan and Russia have worked together on a counterterrorism drill.

An Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said that the two-week drill began on October 13 at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Pabbi. The Pakistan Army’s Light Commando Troops and the Russian Military Contingent were among the participants.

The Commandant of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre was the main guest at the start of the drill.

The drill is meant to improve professional skills through joint training and to use the friendly military-to-military ties that have been in place for a long time.
