Let’s begin this article by thanking Meesha Shafi for gathering all the confidence in the world to speak for something which is frowned upon in a society like ours. Meesha Shafi’s claims on being sexually harassed by Ali Zafar has caused a frenzy nationwide.
Every media outlet, publication and social media space is talking about the fiasco Meesha Shafi revealed a few days ago. While there are a few fighting in favor of Meesha Shafi, the others display themselves on the national TV and on social media, saying how what Meesha has done is just for fame.
For centuries, men and women have been told how the subject of harassment is a taboo; how harassment is “women asking for it”; how harassment has EVERYTHING to do with dressing. People putting up pictures of Meesha Shafi where she is dressed in less clothing, entirely of her choice, saying that she is provoking men like Ali Zafar to harass her.
While you may understand statements like these coming from the uneducated lot, the educated circle is no different.
Activist Nighat Dad revealed the childish words of Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan – a woman holding a prominent position in Pakistani politics.
According to Nighat Dad, Firdous Ashiq Awan Believes that Women Ask for Harassment
Here’s what Nighat Dad tweeted:
Had an argument with Dr Firdaus Ashiq Awan in TV show who says “Agar aurat khud moqa na day to harassment nahin hoti” these are our representatives sitting in parliament. Shame on them! #MeeshaShafi #WeBelieveYou

As Nighat Dad mentioned, these are the sort of people representatives in the parliament; with such old-school thinking.
People Shared their Disappointment On What Firdous Ashiq Awan Said:

As one of the tweets under Nighat Dad said “aurat k hee aurat k liye ye lafz”, it breaks my heart to see how a woman is unable to understand how this society works.
