Cure for Diabetes Patients with Type 2 Recovers

Chinese scientists just announced a cure for diabetes. The test subject for the treatment was an individual with type 2 diabetes and 25 years of diabetic history.

The treatment is carried out using a cell therapy procedure. The research was published in the journal Cell Discovery. The patient is a 59-year-old individual with type 2 diabetes who underwent cell therapy. The patient, who had been diabetic for 25 years, went for cell therapy. 

The patient received the treatment in July 2021 and has since been free from diabetes. The procedure; was conducted in phases. The patient reduced the amount of insulin and oral treatment over 33 months.

The procedure involves lab-grown, insulin-producing islet cells being replaced in the body.

The procedure has been carried out once. Scientists, however, recognize it, as a breakthrough. Professor Timothy Kieffer, a researcher at the British Columbia, called it “an important advance in the field.”.

The success of the procedure has brought hope to millions of people suffering from diabetes.
