The International Cricket Council said Thursday that Pakistan’s cricket team was fined 5% of their match fee for keeping a slow over-rate during their first match at the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 on Wednesday against New Zealand.

Andy Pycroft, the ICC Match Referee, gave the punishment because Pakistan was still one over short of the goal, even after time was taken into account.

Players are charged 5% of their match fee for every over their team doesn’t bowl in time, according to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This rule is about minimum overrate violations.
Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of Pakistan, admitted to the crime and agreed to the punishment, so there was no need for an official hearing.

That charge was made by Richard Kettleborough and Sharfuddoula, two umpires who work on the field, Joel Wilson, the third umpire, and Alex Wharf, the fourth umpire.
The Pakistan Cricket Team lost their game against New Zealand on Wednesday. On Thursday, they took a plane from Karachi to Dubai, where they will play their next game on Sunday against their biggest rival, India.
