Education in Pakistan has become a rat race where students are pressurized by their parents to score the highest. Their sense of pride among their relatives and friends rides solely on their child’s grades. Hence, students suffer from a great deal of stress and expectations. They know that if they fail to achieve a great score in their exams, their parents’ reputation among their friends and family will be tarnished. Sadly, the same fear of parents’ disappointment and anger on poor grades got to a student. He took his own life and left a message for his parents.
A boy committed suicide after receiving bad grades and left a parting note for his parents.
This isn’t the first time a student took his life over not achieving the result his parents expected. The incidents are many and this particular story involves a heart-wrenching note that the boy left beside his other belongings that included his school backpack and shoes. His lifeless body floating in a river was retrieved by the rescue team. The note was addressed to his beloved parents to whom he was apologizing for not performing well in his exams.

The note read, “My dear father and mother, forgive me. My result is very poor. Because of which I will have no respect. But I tried my best to secure a good result. Just forgive me. Allah Hafiz”

Furthermore, the back of the note had a contact number with another statement by the now-deceased boy, which was asking whoever finds his body to contact his parents and tell them that he is here. Parents should be the ones their children can openly be themselves around, share their worries with and find solace, comfort, and encouragement from.

Sadly, most of the parents do entirely the opposite these days and expect their children to ace their tests and bring home a result that they can proudly show-off among their relatives. Their child’s mental health and well-being matter little to none, considering they only care about the results to be according to their desires and not how this ridiculous pressure is ruining their peace of mind.
The parents lost their son on a matter as trivial as grades and mark sheets.

Yes, the student should have known better that suicide is not an option. But, the child would’ve only known if his parents nourished his mind and soul with the needed attention, love, care and support. Alas! The child is no more. Pakistani parents need to understand that grades do not measure their child’s intelligence. Hence, it shouldn’t be made more important than their well-being. Unfortunately, this isn’t something that a mother or a father needs to be told; their unconditional love wouldn’t allow them to ruin their child’s health for a bunch of numbers to uphold a good reputation.
