Amber Gemstone Dating Back 13 Million Years Found in Lebanon

Amber Gemstone dating back 13 million years found in Lebanon.

Dany Azer, a paleontologist (scientists who study the history of life on Earth through fossil records) discovered Amber Gemstones. Discovered in Ain Dara, a village in central Lebanon. Dating back to 13 million years, Amber Gemstone holds vital information about the Cretaceous age ( when dinosaurs roamed the Earth).

Moreover, paleontologists consider such Gemstones as time capsules. Because they tell us how Earth has evolved over the years. Amber Gemstones found, direct our attention to the change that the world was going through 13 million years ago. There was a change from seedless plants to flowering plants.

Meanwhile, flourishing flowering plants gave rise to insects such as bees and moths. Today no male mosquito sucks blood. However, male mosquito ancestors did. Found frozen in Amber stones having an active mouthpiece.

Scientists believe that such change came from a change in diet. Furthermore, dense forests and large dinosaurs moved on Earth in the Cretaceous age.

Dany Azer works at Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology in China. He is a Lebanese native and the Lebanese University has found many Amber nuggets in Lebanon. Lebanon is one of the richest places for studying Earth’s history.
