Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik is now the new head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, starting on September 30. The announcement came from Pakistan Television (PTV) instead of the usual Prime Minister’s Office or military media.
He takes over from Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who led for almost three years. Before this, Lt Gen Asim worked as Adjutant General at the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. He also commanded an infantry brigade in Waziristan and taught at the National Defense University. He has studied at top places like Fort Leavenworth in the U.S. and the Royal College of Defence in London.

Unlike past tensions during such appointments, this change has been smooth. Lt Gen Asim’s new job is important, as the ISI handles key security issues in Pakistan.
