In an interesting development, the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Divisions discussed various topics this week, including the luxurious assets of the Cabinet Division, the Islamabad Club’s entry restrictions for second or third wives of its members, and the popularity of Chahat Fateh Ali Khan.
The committee learned that the Cabinet Division possesses 18 bullet-proof vehicles, six helicopters, an aviation squadron, Toshakhana gifts, and the authority to declare national public holidays.
Saleem Mandviwala highlighted an unfair rule at the Islamabad Club, which does not recognize a member’s second or third wife, thus barring their entry. The committee acknowledged the importance of this issue, given that Islam allows men to have up to four marriages.

Members were also informed about changes in the procedure for awarding civil honors. The Cabinet Division special secretary stated that now, recipients must demonstrate exceptional contributions in their fields. Singers, for instance, are considered for awards based on the number of views of their YouTube videos.
Committee member Aamir Chishti humorously asked if Chahat Fateh Ali Khan’s song “Bado Badi” would qualify for an award, given its YouTube popularity. This led to a lighthearted moment when committee chair Rana Mahmoodul Hasan admitted that he had heard the song and joked that it gave him a headache.
