NADRA Data Breach Crisis Urgent Measures Needed in Pakistan

A recent investigation conducted by experts has uncovered alarming information: a significant breach in data security has impacted 2.7 million Pakistanis between 2019 and 2023. This breach, stemming from specific NADRA offices located in Multan, Peshawar, and Karachi, has sparked considerable worries regarding the protection of individuals’ personal data.

Upon receiving the investigation’s report, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) quickly called for further inquiry, urging cooperation with important organizations like the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and Military Intelligence.

The investigation uncovered a complex process of data trafficking, with stolen information moving from Multan to Peshawar, then being sent overseas to Dubai, and eventually being traded in countries like Argentina and Romania.
